William Crosbie 1915-1999 Scottish Sold
William (Bill) Crosbie was born in Hankow, China in 1915. The family returned to Glasgow in 1926 where William studied at the Glasgow School of Art Academy from 1934-1936. On leaving art school he travelled in Europe on a Haldine scholarship spending 2 years living in Paris between 1937-1939. Whilst living in Paris he studied under famed French artists Leger and Maillol. His paintings hang in most major museums and galleries in Scotland and are part of the Royal collection.
Crosbie’s style was rather eclectic. Our oil on canvas circa 1945 is perhaps less typical of what had become his almost modernist paintings in his later years . The painting features fishermen tending their nets in a continental fishing village.
